12 songs – 49 minutes In the blues realm, where authenticity and soulful delivery reign supreme, Gayle Harrod emerges as a force to be reckoned with in her debut album, "Temptation." A latecomer to the music scene, Harrod's powerful, expressive, and occasionally gravelly vocals tell a story of a seasoned artist who has found her rightful place in the spotlight. At the age of 55, this Baltimore native has crafted an album that showcases her prowess as a blues belter and a storyteller.

Recorded last summer and self-produced, "Temptation" features 12 original tunes written by Harrod, each track revealing her rich musical journey and influences. The backing band, composed of talented musicians from the mid-Atlantic music scene, complements Harrod's vocals with precision and soul.

The album kicks off with "Sweet Memphis Man," a funky, medium-paced shuffle that sets the tone for what's to come. Harrod's narrative unfolds with love at first sight in a Bluff City nightspot. As the album progresses, the themes traverse troubled times in "Come on People," the end of ill-fated love in the hard-hitting ballad "Baby We're Through," and the internal struggle of "Temptation."

Harrod's vocal prowess shines in "In the Deep Dark Night" and "Bring Me Along," where she navigates the complexities of romantic encounters. The Delta-infused ballad "Waiting in the Shadows" brings a sense of solace after a 15-year wait, leading into the horn-fueled energy of "Break" and the rock-infused reflection of lost love in "You're Gonna Miss Me."

"The In Between" delves into the complexities of post-breakup connections, while the fiery "God Laughed" and the sweet "Beautiful Friend" close the set on a high note.

With guest appearances from accomplished musicians and backing vocals from The Voices of Faith, Gayle Harrod's "Temptation" is a rock-solid debut that demands attention. From its funky shuffles to heartfelt ballads, the album showcases the breadth of Harrod's vocal range and the emotional depth of her songwriting. "Temptation" is more than an introduction; it's a testament to the timeless allure of blues storytelling in the hands of a seasoned artist. Don't resist the allure—Harrod's "Temptation" is undoubtedly worth a listen!
