Nemeth and The Blue Dreamers – Live from the Fallout Shelter

13 tracks – 74 minutes

In the vast landscape of blues music, few artists command attention like John Nemeth. A powerhouse harmonica player, soulful vocalist, and seasoned songwriter, Nemeth has been a prominent figure in the blues scene for two decades, earning accolades and nominations across various categories. His latest live album, "Live from the Fallout Shelter," captures a momentous performance at The Fallout Shelter in Norwood, Massachusetts, on April 16, 2022, just before Nemeth faced a significant health challenge.

The concert, recorded amidst uncertainties and emotions, reflects the raw energy and passion that have become synonymous with Nemeth's stage presence. Backed by The Blue Dreamers – Jad Tariq and John Hay on guitar and harmony vocals, Matthew Wilson on drums, acoustic guitar, and harmony vocals, and Max Kaplan on bass and harmony vocals – Nemeth leads an electrifying show that spans 13 tracks over 74 minutes.

The album kicks off with a Caribbean-flavored introduction that swiftly transforms into a funky rhythm, setting the tone for the evening. "Sweep the Shack" exudes an infectious groove as Nemeth declares his need to tidy up to rekindle love. His harmonica prowess takes the spotlight on "Work for Love," accompanied by laid-back guitar solos that add depth to the performance.

Transitioning into a shuffle, "Come and Take It" channels the spirit of John Lee Hooker with rhythmic bursts of "boom, boom, boom." The mood shifts with "Testify My Love," a quiet acoustic slow blues featuring tight harmonies, reminiscent of old-school R&B. Accelerating the tempo, "Elbows On The Wheel" offers a slightly countrified narrative about a truck driver, while "Chain Breaker" unfolds into a shuffle, showcasing Nemeth's dynamic harmonica and potent guitar runs.

In "Deprivin' a Love," Nemeth questions his lover's feelings against a backdrop of emotive harmonica riffs and compelling drum beats. "I Can See Your Love Light Shine" introduces a ska-like rhythm, with Max Kaplan's bass taking a prominent role. "Feelin' Freaky" unfolds with solo guitar work, gradually building up to a climactic explosion of drums, vocals, and scintillating harmonica and guitar interplay.

"Get Offa Dat Butt" commands the audience to dance with its steamy boogie rhythm, a testament to Nemeth's ability to ignite the crowd. "Country Boy," a blues-rock anthem, features expressive slide guitar work, as Nemeth sings about leaving his country home for the city lights. The album concludes with the energetic boogie of "Fountain of a Man," providing the band with the opportunity to let loose and deliver a grand finale.

John Nemeth's soulful vocals and dynamic harmonica playing remain at the forefront throughout the performance. The majority of the songs revolve around the theme of love, showcasing Nemeth's ability to infuse heartfelt emotion into his music. A year after facing health challenges and undergoing surgery, Nemeth is back on the road, proving that his passion for performing and connecting with audiences remains undiminished.

"Live from the Fallout Shelter" not only captures a momentous live performance but also serves as a testament to John Nemeth's resilience, musical prowess, and the undeniable chemistry of The Blue Dreamers. This album is a must-listen for blues enthusiasts, offering a front-row seat to an unforgettable night of blues magic.
