Raphael Wressnig & Igor Prado – More Groove, More Good Times Live

Pepper Cake Records

8 Tracks 43 minutes

For those not yet acquainted with the electrifying talent of Raphael Wressnig, his latest collaboration with the Prado brothers, Igor and Yuri, is the perfect introduction to a musical force that demands recognition. "More Groove, More Good Times Live," released under Pepper Cake Records, showcases the Austrian Hammond B-3 organ maestro in a dynamic trio setting, with the Brazilian blues virtuosos adding their own layers of magic to the mix.

Wressnig, a two-time nominee for "Best Organ Player of the Year" by Downbeat Magazine, has over 15 albums to his name, each a testament to his boundary-defying keyboard prowess. In this live recording, he joins forces with the Prado brothers, a duo deserving of wider acclaim. Igor, a standout blues guitarist with a fiery left-handed style, injects passion into every note, while Yuri, a rock-solid drummer, navigates the diverse rhythms woven by Wressnig.

The album kicks off with a funky rendition of Bill Withers' "Kissing My Love," setting the tone for a groove-filled journey. Five tracks from their previous studio album, "Groove & Good Times," make a return, and the trio dives into a New Orleans-inspired sound with a scintillating cover of The Meters' "No More Okey Dokie." Wressnig's organ washes create an electrifying atmosphere, capturing the excitement reminiscent of the best bands from the Crescent City.

The trio pays homage to Stevie Ray Vaughan's legacy with a rendition of Reese Wynans' "Crossfire," allowing Igor to unleash blistering guitar licks. "Drive It Home," a Snooks Eaglin composition, features more impressive guitar work and a hearty vocal from Igor, adding to the New Orleans flair. In their rendition of "Ain't No Love (In The Heart Of The City)," the trio forgoes vocals, opting instead for a solid groove as a canvas for top-notch improvisations.

The Isley Brothers' "I Know Who You Been Socking It To" provides ample space for Wressnig to showcase his remarkable organ chops. Co-written by Wressnig, "Born To Roam" offers a talking vocal highlighting the organist's worldly travels, seamlessly transitioning into Igor's soulful guitar solo. The album concludes with the energetic "Faceslap Swing No. 5," where Yuri's drumming, Igor's frenzied guitar, and Wressnig's organ riffs construct a soulful strut, leaving the audience cheering for more.

"More Groove, More Good Times Live" is more than a live recording; it's a testament to the infectious energy and chemistry of three extraordinary musicians. Wressnig, Igor, and Yuri create a musical experience that transcends genres, delivering a Hammond-powered extravaganza that demands attention. Whether you're a seasoned fan or a newcomer to the world of Raphael Wressnig, this album is a must-listen that captures the joy, spontaneity, and musical brilliance of a live performance.
