14 tracks; 37 minutes Estonian guitarist Andres Roots unveils his latest instrumental masterpiece with "Vol. 12," a collection of 14 tracks that span various sources and showcase his exceptional skills on the acoustic guitar. Rooted in the blues tradition, Andres Roots has become a notable figure in the European and American music scenes, representing Estonia in the European Blues Challenge and performing at renowned festivals like the King Biscuit.

The album, released under Roots Art Records, marks Andres Roots' return to the studio after a brief hiatus due to a health scare and the challenges posed by the global pandemic. "Vol. 12" is a testament to his prowess as a solo performer, featuring tracks that vary in style and tempo, offering a rich listening experience for fans of acoustic guitar music.

The album begins with tracks from a 2019 vinyl-only EP, where Andres Roots demonstrates his versatility by switching between electric and acoustic guitars. "Waiting Around," the title track of the EP, is a slow blues number where Andres skillfully plays lead lines over his own rhythm track. "Birdsong Thing" follows, capturing the essence of its title through repetitive yet engaging guitar work.

Moving forward to the 2021 Afternoon CD EP, listeners are treated to tracks like "Sunstroke" and "Sherwood," where a strong rhythmic approach prevails. The interplay between melody and rhythm on these tracks adds a dynamic quality to the album. The four blues-related tracks from this EP, including "Picnic At Dockery's" and "Bye Bye Berry," showcase Andres Roots' ability to channel the spirit of the blues into his compositions.

The album also features tracks from a 2022 collaboration with a theater production of N. Richard Nash's "The Rainmaker." "Starbuck Theme" stands out with its ethereal slide guitar, while "Western Of The Month" successfully blends country and blues influences in an upbeat manner. "Hawk's Out With His Axe" adds a touch of folk-style tunes to the collection.

Additional recordings from the 2022 session include "So It Is, Subhuti," "Dromedary," and "Yuletide Blues," each offering a unique flavor. "Yuletide Blues" playfully incorporates a snippet of "Jingle Bells," infusing a festive vibe into the mix.

Andres Roots proves himself as a masterful picker throughout "Vol. 12," delivering music that caters to acoustic guitar enthusiasts. Whether it's the slow, reflective blues tunes or the more upbeat and rhythmic compositions, Andres Roots captures the essence of each style with precision and authenticity. "Vol. 12" is a testament to Andres Roots' dedication to his craft and his ability to translate a diverse range of influences into a cohesive and enjoyable listening experience.
